Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez expressed his support for Rosa Maria Paya, who was recently nominated by Secretary Marco Rubio to serve on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Gimenez’s statement praised Paya as a capable representative for the United States.

“There is no one better than Rosa Maria Paya to represent the United States on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights,” stated Congressman Carlos Gimenez. “Rosa Maria is a tireless champion for freedom and democracy, an incredible leader of our Cuban exile community, and a dear friend. She has fought for human rights throughout the world and now she will do so as a representative of the United States. We are all so proud of you.”

Congressman Gimenez, who represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, holds the distinction of being the only Cuban-born member of the 119th Congress. He is recognized as the first career firefighter paramedic elected to the House of Representatives and has served as the Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Gimenez was appointed by Speaker Mike Johnson to the Smithsonian Institution’s Board of Regents and holds the position of Vice-Chairman of the Republican Governance Group. He also serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, the Armed Services Committee, and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.
