University of Miami athlete Edgar Campre won the decathlon title on May 15 as the Hurricanes completed day two of the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
Campre, who also secured the 2024 decathlon title, finished with a total of 7,749 points. He placed first in the shot put with a distance of 14.28 meters, first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.32 seconds, and first in discus with a throw of 45.51 meters. Campre also earned second place in pole vault by clearing 4.65 meters and took third place finishes in both the 100-meter dash and long jump.
Dominique Hall contributed two points to Miami’s score after finishing seventh overall with a total of 7,048 points in the decathlon event.
In other results for Miami athletes at the championships, Kennedy Sauder claimed silver in men’s high jump by clearing a height of 2.12 meters. Maddie Scheier set a new school record for women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.69.
George Franks and Sean Watkins both qualified for the men’s 400-meter final; Franks posted the fastest preliminary time at 45.78 seconds while Watkins ran it in 46.31 seconds. In women’s preliminaries for that event, Serena Tate and Nandy Kihuyu finished third and fifth respectively to qualify for Saturday’s final.
Ashton Torns advanced to compete in the men’s 100-meter final after running it in just over ten seconds (10.41), while Gabriella Grissom qualified for the women’s final at eight hundred meters with her time of 2:04.40.
The Hurricanes are scheduled to return for their final day at these championships on Saturday afternoon.
