FIU’s track and field teams competed at the Florida Relays on April 4, with Arndis Oskarsdottir winning the women’s javelin event. The meet, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, featured several top programs from across the country.
Oskarsdottir recorded a throw of 54.48 meters on her third attempt in the finals, securing first place by nearly three meters over her closest competitor. She outperformed athletes from universities such as Florida State, Tennessee, Auburn, Illinois, Vanderbilt and Penn State.
On the track events, Lorena Bartakovic finished eighth in the women’s 1500-meter race with a time of 4:35.81. This result ranks sixth-best in FIU program history and placed her ahead of runners from both Florida and Florida State. Jared Falchook represented FIU in the men’s division with a fifth-place finish in the men’s 1500 meters. His time of 3:54.11 is now seventh-best all-time for FIU and put him ahead of competitors from USF, Florida State and Miami.
The performance at this major relay meet highlights individual achievements for FIU athletes against strong national competition.
Both teams are scheduled to compete next at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 10-11 at the University of Miami in Coral Gables.
