FIU’s baseball team lost, 8-3, to the Delaware Blue Hens on May 2 at Bob Hannah Stadium during Conference USA play.
The loss marks another setback for FIU, which now holds a record of 15-31 overall and 6-17 in Conference USA. The result also secured the series victory for Delaware.
Delaware took an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the third. FIU got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning after Samuel Fischer walked and Aidan Cohall reached base, followed by Enrique Alvarez Jr.’s RBI single. In response to a sixth-inning run from Delaware, Hector Candelas hit his first home run of the season—a two-run shot—in the seventh inning with Caden Sammler on base, reducing FIU’s deficit to three runs. However, Delaware added two more runs in the eighth inning to close out their win.
Pitcher Julian Mlodzinski made his eleventh start for FIU but allowed five earned runs over less than three innings. George Adams provided relief with over four innings pitched and seven strikeouts while allowing one earned run. Rene Lastres gave up two runs later in the game, and Tracen Cameron threw a scoreless eighth inning.
On offense, FIU recorded seven hits with Alvarez Jr. and Candelas each collecting multiple hits. Andrew Ildefonso contributed a single that marked his 100th career hit for FIU. Cohall reached base twice through a single and walk; Cooper Rasmussen added a double; Fischer drew a walk as well.
