The FIU baseball team lost 9-4 to Boston College on Wednesday night at FIU Baseball Stadium, ending their two-game midweek series. Boston College took the lead in the third inning with a two-run triple and added four more runs in the sixth, followed by three runs in the seventh.
FIU’s Jarek Woodward started the game and threw two scoreless innings before giving up two runs in the third. In response, Vicente Feliciano reached base on an error and scored on Preston Leon’s groundout, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.
Boston College widened its lead in the sixth inning by capitalizing on an error, scoring with an RBI single and a two-run double. The Eagles further extended their advantage with a three-run home run in the seventh, making it 9-1.
FIU managed to respond in the bottom of the seventh when Samuel Fischer reached base on a fielder’s choice and Aidan Cohall hit a two-run single to left-center field, bringing the score to 9-4.
Woodward was charged with his first loss of the season after allowing two runs over three innings while striking out three batters. Enrique Sierra contributed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in relief. Tracen Cameron gave up three earned runs in one inning, while Clayton Sherwood allowed three earned runs in just a third of an inning. Cooper Foster provided stability from the bullpen by pitching 2.2 no-hit innings and recording three strikeouts.
On offense, Cohall and Andrew Ildefonso both had multiple hits during the game. Fischer collected a single and reached base three times through a walk and being hit by a pitch.
Looking ahead, FIU will face Florida Atlantic University in a home-and-home series from March 6 to March 8, playing games in Boca Raton on March 6 and March 8, with a contest in Miami scheduled for March 7.
