FIU’s softball team continued its undefeated run at the Felsberg Invitational with two wins on Friday. The Panthers defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 10-2 in their first game and then overcame Louisville 7-5 in the evening matchup at Baptist Health Stadium.

Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, FIU secured a decisive victory in five innings. Kally Meredith started the game with an inside-the-park home run, while Zamya McBurrows hit her first career homer—a grand slam—in the third inning. Riley Silvers contributed two RBIs and scored a run in her collegiate debut. Kennedy Byrd pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and two earned runs.

In the second game of the day, freshman Meagan Villazon made her first collegiate start against Louisville. She pitched six innings, gave up three earned runs, and struck out three batters. J’dah Grigorie came on in relief to earn her first career save.

The Panthers fell behind by two runs early but responded quickly with three runs before Louisville recorded an out. After both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning, Louisville tied the game. FIU regained momentum in the sixth inning with singles from Sammy Zelenka and Byrd, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Isabella Perez that put them ahead 4-3. Janelle Martinez added two more runs due to a throwing error by Louisville’s shortstop, and Kendall Catherwood doubled to increase FIU’s lead to 7-3.

Louisville managed to score twice in their final at-bat, but FIU held on for its first-ever win over Louisville and its first victory against an ACC opponent since March 12, 2024.

The Panthers are scheduled to play Stony Brook and Lehigh next on Saturday.
