FIU’s women’s basketball team achieved a record-setting defensive performance in their 62-36 win over Delaware on Thursday. The Panthers limited the Blue Hens to just 36 points, the fewest allowed by FIU in a conference regular season game. This surpassed previous records of 40 points allowed against UTSA in both 2014 and 2019, and broke the Sun Belt-era mark of 39 points given up to Troy in 2013.
The victory also matched FIU’s largest point differential this season against a Division I opponent, equaling their earlier 26-point win over Western Kentucky.
At halftime, FIU led Delaware by six points. In the second half, the Panthers extended their lead by outscoring Delaware by 20 points across the final two quarters. They scored 37 while holding Delaware to only 17 during that stretch.
Rhema Collins contributed significantly with 20 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Senior Parris Atkins recorded her first career double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds, along with three assists, one block, and one steal. Adama Badjie Coly added ten points and eight rebounds for FIU.
This marks FIU’s first-ever win over Delaware in program history.
FIU is scheduled to host Liberty on Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m. for their final regular season matchup.
