FIU women’s tennis loses to Florida Atlantic in regular season finale

FIU’s women’s tennis team lost 4-1 to Florida Atlantic on Apr. 11 at the PayCargo Tennis Center, ending their regular season.

The match was also Senior Day for Katerina Mandelikova, who was recognized before play began for her contributions to the program.

Florida Atlantic took an early lead by winning doubles matches on Courts 2 and 3. In singles competition, the Owls extended their advantage with straight-set wins on Courts 2 and 3. FIU earned its only point when Viktorie Hazmukova won her match on Court 5 with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Florida Atlantic secured the overall victory with a three-set win on Court 6. Two singles matches were left unfinished: Mandelikova led her opponent at No.1 by a score of 5-3 in the third set, while Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn’s match at No.4 also remained incomplete.

With this result, FIU finishes the regular season with a record of nine wins and ten losses. The Panthers will next compete in the Conference USA Championships in Murfreesboro, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.
