FIU outdoor track and field finished competition at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in Murfreesboro on May 16, with the women’s team placing third overall. The Panthers claimed ten medals, earned 123.5 team points, and took home two golds. The men’s squad placed eighth.
The event began with strong performances from the women’s team in the field events. Janiya Cesar won silver in the hammer throw with a distance of 61.42 meters, while Nyla Fulvi took silver in the long jump with a personal record of 6.15 meters. Fulvi also earned bronze in the heptathlon on day two, scoring 5245 points for third place in school history, just behind freshman Itsaso Madariaga Huegun who scored 5269 for second place.
Sydney Nicholson added another silver medal for FIU by clearing four meters in pole vault, ranking fifth all-time at FIU and finishing ahead of teammate Kylie Neira. In high jump, Luca Keszthelyi secured gold with a mark of 1.76 meters while Amaya Bien-Aime earned silver at 1.73 meters—her third consecutive year medaling in this event.
On day three, Blake Orr was the only male medalist for FIU after throwing 66.64 meters to win silver in javelin. The women continued their success as Isabell-Mary Luik won gold (50.61m) and Arndis Oskarsdottir claimed silver (50.24m) in javelin as well.
Danielle McGonigle concluded FIU’s weekend by earning a silver medal in triple jump with a leap of 12.89 meters—the fourth-best mark ever recorded by an FIU athlete.
The next step for qualifying athletes will be participation at the NCAA East Regional meet scheduled to take place later this season.
