Florida International University’s baseball team lost to Florida Atlantic University 14-2 in a seven-inning game on Friday at FAU Baseball Stadium. This matchup marked the first contest of a home-and-home series between the two teams.
FIU opened scoring in the second inning with an RBI single from Aris Rivera, bringing Hector Candelas home. Florida Atlantic responded with four runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth, taking control of the game.
The Owls increased their lead to 7-1 before adding two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth inning, making it 14-1. FIU scored again in the seventh when Trey Freeman hit his first collegiate home run.
Preston Prince started on the mound for FIU, pitching two scoreless innings and recording two strikeouts. Quin McManmon gave up four runs over one inning, while Mason Koczwara allowed five runs across two innings. Rene Lastres and Taggert Cameron also pitched out of the bullpen.
FIU managed six hits during the game, with Rivera leading by recording two hits. Candelas, Vicente Feliciano, Samuel Fischer, and Freeman each contributed one hit.
FIU will return to Miami for another game against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m., which will be streamed live on ESPN+ from FIU Baseball Stadium.
