The University of Miami track and field team finished the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships on May 16 with two first-place performances. George Franks won the men’s 400-meter race with a season-best time of 45.27 seconds, finishing nearly eight-tenths of a second ahead of his competitors. Sanaa Hebron secured her second consecutive ACC title in the women’s 400-meter hurdles, recording a time of 55.19 seconds, which is the second-fastest in program history.

The results highlight strong individual performances for Miami at the championship meet. In addition to gold medals from Franks and Hebron, several athletes reached the podium or set season bests in their events.

Serena Tate took third place in the women’s 400 meters with a season-best time of 52.69 seconds, while Nandy Kihuyu finished fourth at 54.15 seconds. Desmond Coleman earned bronze in men’s discus with a mark of 58 meters, and Magdaline Campo took bronze in women’s high jump by clearing 1.77 meters.

Relay teams also had notable showings: The men’s quartet of Ashton Torns, Tristen Washington, Carter Cukerstein and Dylan Woodruffe posted a time of 39.52 seconds—the second-fastest ever for Miami—to finish fourth in the men’s 4×100 relay. On the women’s side, Janay Moorer, Nandy Kihuyu, Aniyah Brown and Iyonna Codd ran a season-best time of 43.88 seconds to take fourth place in their relay event.

Other top-five finishes included Gabriella Grissom placing fifth in the women’s 800 meters (2:03.90) and Adriana Kruzmane taking fifth in triple jump (12.98 meters). Sean Watkins Jr placed sixth in the men’s 400 meters (46.50), while Franks was fourth (20.86) and Watkins sixth (21.11) respectively in the men’s 200-meter race.

To conclude competition at Louisville’s Owsley B Frazier Cardinal Park Track Stadium, Tate, Hebron, Grissom and Codd teamed up for fourth place (3:32:70) in women’s closing relay event.

Overall team standings saw Miami’s women finish sixth with sixty points; men’s squad ended seventh scoring fifty-three points each outpacing several conference rivals.

Miami will next compete at NCAA East Prelims scheduled from May twenty-seventh through thirtieth held this year at Lexington Kentucky.
