Kentucky defeats University of Miami women’s basketball team in ACC-SEC Challenge

The University of Miami women’s basketball team lost 64-48 to the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats in the ACC-SEC Challenge on Wednesday night. The game, held in Coral Gables, was Miami’s third matchup against a ranked opponent in two weeks.

Miami now has a record of 5-3 overall and remains winless in ACC play, while Kentucky improves to 9-1.

The Hurricanes started strong with an early layup from Ahnay Adams and managed to hold off Kentucky for more than two minutes before the Wildcats increased their offensive pressure. Early foul trouble for Miami allowed Kentucky to gain points at the free throw line, ending the first quarter ahead 16-13.

In the second quarter, Miami briefly took a lead at 18-16 and kept the score close, tying it twice. With less than a minute left in the half, Kentucky pulled ahead by five points. After two successful free throws by Kyle, Miami trailed by three (26-23) going into halftime.

Kentucky opened the second half with a 13-5 run and extended its lead to double digits. Following back-to-back turnovers after a timeout, Miami fell behind by as many as 17 points but narrowed the deficit to 12 entering the fourth quarter.

During the final period, Kentucky maintained control as Miami struggled offensively, shooting only 18.2 percent from the field and being out-rebounded. The game ended with Kentucky winning by sixteen points.

After this loss, Miami will play Georgia State at home on Sunday at 2 p.m., with streaming available on ACCNX.

Kyle recorded her fifth double-double of the season for Miami. Nine players contributed to Miami’s total of 48 points; Raviv scored 12 points while Kyle added 11. The Hurricanes forced thirteen turnovers from Kentucky and converted them into eleven points but were outscored in paint points (30-20).
