Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney has been named the ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year, according to an announcement from the conference on Wednesday. He is the first Miami player to receive the league’s top rookie honor since Tyler Van Dyke in 2021.

Toney is now the fourth player from Miami to win ACC Rookie of the Year, joining Duke Johnson (2012), Brad Kaaya (2014), and Tyler Van Dyke (2021).

During his freshman season, Toney made a significant impact for Miami. He finished with 84 receptions for 970 yards and seven touchdowns, setting a new program record for single-season receiving yards by a freshman. His reception total was also the highest among freshmen nationwide this season and ranks among recent ACC newcomers’ best performances.

Toney recorded at least 60 receiving yards in nine out of twelve games and achieved four games with over 100 receiving yards. Notably, he had a season-high 153 yards against Florida State on October 5 and followed that with 146 yards in a win over Virginia Tech. In his final game at Pittsburgh, he scored both a receiving touchdown and a passing touchdown.

Before joining Miami, Toney attended American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale, where he was recognized as one of Florida’s most accomplished high school prospects. He was rated as a four-star recruit and ranked among the nation’s top players at his position.

He received several honors during his high school career, including winning the Nat Moore Award in 2024 as South Florida’s top high school player and being named Florida High School Player of the Year by MaxPreps after leading American Heritage to a state championship.
