Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, has shared her thoughts on recent issues via social media. Salazar, who succeeded Donna Shalala and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, addressed both international and local matters.

On May 13, 2025, Rep. Salazar commented on the ongoing situation in Cuba with a focus on Fidel Castro’s legacy. She stated that “El legado brutal de Fidel Castro sigue vivo en Cuba: en cada voz silenciada, en cada disidente perseguido o asesinado.” Furthermore, she expressed concern about the impact of communism and emphasized the importance of educating future generations to prevent its spread.

Later that day, Rep. Salazar congratulated law enforcement officers during National Police Week. In a tweet posted at 19:44 UTC, she extended her congratulations to “the courageous officers of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office honored at the @NAPOpolice Top Cops Awards.” She acknowledged their bravery and commitment to community safety.

Shortly after, at 19:46 UTC, Salazar reiterated her support for law enforcement in another tweet celebrating National Police Week. She expressed “¡Honor y gratitud a los héroes que nos protegen!” highlighting the valor of Miami-Dade Sheriff’s officers recognized at the Top Cops Awards by @NAPOpolice.

María Elvira Salazar was born in Miami in 1961 and currently resides there. She graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983.
