Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, recently shared her perspectives on various issues through a series of tweets. Her communications touch upon housing affordability in Miami and support for law enforcement officers.

On May 14, 2025, Salazar addressed concerns regarding the cost of living in Miami during a Financial Services Committee meeting. She posed the question: “¿Qué vamos a hacer para que vivir en Miami no sea un lujo?” She highlighted her efforts since joining Congress to secure $3.5 million for senior housing, supporting bipartisan reforms, and calling out abuses.

The following day, on May 15, 2025, Salazar acknowledged #PoliceWeek by expressing gratitude towards law enforcement officers for their courage and sacrifice. In her tweet she stated: “This #PoliceWeek, we recognize the courage and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers.” She also announced her co-sponsorship of the #HELPERAct aimed at making homeownership more accessible for these individuals.

Additionally, she reiterated this sentiment in Spanish on the same day with another post: “En esta #SemanaDeLaPolicía, reconocemos el valor y el sacrificio de nuestros agentes del orden.” Again emphasizing her pride in co-sponsoring legislation to aid law enforcement personnel in obtaining housing.

María Elvira Salazar was born in Miami in 1961 and graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983. Prior to her current role in Congress, she served in the Florida House of Representatives.
