María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, has recently shared her views on social media regarding National Police Week and the ongoing impact of Fidel Castro’s legacy in Cuba. Born in Miami in 1961, Salazar has been an active voice in politics after succeeding Donna Shalala.

On May 12, 2025, Rep. María Elvira Salazar acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement during National Police Week. She stated, “During National Police Week, we honor the brave men and women of law enforcement in Miami and across the nation.” Her post emphasized the courage and sacrifice shown by police officers and her commitment to support those who serve.

In a subsequent tweet posted shortly after on May 12, she reiterated her sentiments in Spanish: “En la Semana Nacional de la Policía, honramos a los hombres y mujeres valientes que arriesgan su vida por nosotros.” This message highlighted her respect for law enforcement both locally in Miami and nationwide.

The following day, on May 13, Salazar addressed issues related to Cuba’s political climate. She remarked on social media that “Fidel Castro’s brutal legacy lives on everyday in Cuba, through every silenced voice and murdered dissident.” She expressed concern about communism’s continuing effects and stressed the importance of educating future generations to prevent its spread.

María Elvira Salazar is known for her advocacy on various issues affecting her constituents. A graduate from the University of Miami with a BA obtained in 1983, she continues to reside in Miami where she remains actively engaged with local and national matters.
