María Elvira Salazar, the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th district, took to social media on April 28, 2025, to announce and support the progression of her legislative initiative known as the TAKE IT DOWN Act. Her announcements were made in both English and Spanish, appealing to a broad audience.

In her first tweet of the day, Salazar informed followers that her TAKE IT DOWN Act is poised for a vote on the House floor. She remarked, “My TAKE IT DOWN Act is headed for a vote on the House floor today. @SenTedCruz’s version already cleared the Senate.” She added, emphasizing the bill’s purpose, “Victims need protection” and “Criminals will go to prison,” and concluded, “It’s common sense: TAKE IT DOWN.”

Salazar reiterated this message in Spanish shortly thereafter, in a subsequent tweet. She communicated, “Mi proyecto de ley TAKE IT DOWN se dirige hoy a una votación en el pleno de la Cámara. La versión de @SenTedCruz ya fue aprobada en el Senado.” She reaffirmed the act’s objectives: “Las víctimas necesitan protección” and “Los criminales irán a prisión,” ending with “Es sentido común: TAKE IT DOWN.”

Later the same day, Salazar elaborated on the implications of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. She asserted, “My TAKE IT DOWN Act will finally give innocent victims real protection from online exploitation.” She outlined the accountability measures, stating that “Websites and platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok must remove fake, compromising pornographic images within 48 hours or face the consequences.”

Salazar has been a U.S. Congress member since 2021, succeeding Donna Shalala. She represents Florida’s 27th district after serving in the Florida House of Representatives. Salazar was born in Miami in 1961, attended the University of Miami, graduating in 1983, and currently resides in Miami.
