U.S. Representative María Elvira Salazar, who represents Florida’s 27th district in Congress, addressed provisions of the Dream Act and her Dignity Act legislation in a series of tweets on July 17, 2025.

In her first post, Salazar responded to claims about eligibility for status adjustment under the Dream Act provision: “This is incorrect. This is a provision from the Dream Act included in the bill. No criminals or gang members are eligible. Period. Here’s how it works — when a Dreamer would apply to adjust status, there is an investigation – including a criminal background check, check for” (July 17, 2025).

Later that day, she further clarified documentation requirements: “Charlie – there are no tricks. There are no magic words. There are ways to establish how long someone has been here, including passport entries, DHS records, employment records, and tax receipts, etc. The burden of proof is on the individual. If they can’t prove it, they” (July 17, 2025).

In another tweet outlining her legislative proposal, Salazar stated: “The Dignity Act is the solution: Secures the border. Stops illegal immigration. Gives long-term immigrants a chance to earn legal status — through work, taxes, and accountability. No amnesty. No handouts. No path to citizenship. Just order, dignity, and economic” (July 17, 2025).

María Elvira Salazar has served in Congress since replacing Donna Shalala in 2021 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives ([source](https://salazar.house.gov/about)). Born in Miami in 1961 and currently residing there at age 61, she graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983.
