Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, shared her views on recent events through a series of tweets on May 22, 2025.

In her first tweet of the day, Salazar condemned an act of violence against members of the Israeli Embassy staff in Washington D.C. She stated, “Condeno el atroz y antisemita asesinato de dos miembros del personal de la Embajada de Israel en D.C. Mis oraciones están con sus familias.” She emphasized that such acts of hatred have no place in society and expressed solidarity with Israel.

Later that day, Salazar addressed U.S. policy towards Venezuela in two separate tweets. In one tweet, she thanked Secretary Rubio and the Trump Administration for their decision to halt oil licenses for operations in Venezuela. She declared, “Thank you to @SecRubio and the Trump Administration for putting an end to oil licenses to operate in Venezuela.” She argued that this move would cut off support for Maduro’s regime.

In a similar vein, Salazar reiterated her gratitude to Secretary Rubio and the Trump Administration in another tweet regarding Chevron’s license termination in Venezuela. She asserted, “Gracias a @SecRubio y a la Administración Trump por poner fin a la licencia de Chevron en Venezuela.” Salazar called for an end to what she described as lifelines provided to Maduro’s government.

María Elvira Salazar was born in Miami, Florida in 1961 and continues to reside there. She is an alumna of the University of Miami where she completed her BA degree in 1983.
