Rep. María Elvira Salazar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district, shared her views on recent developments in Central America and Cuba through a series of tweets on May 5, 2025.

In her first tweet at 15:57 UTC, Salazar commented on the situation in El Salvador. She stated that “El Salvador pasó de ser rehén de las pandillas a convertirse en el país más seguro de la región.” She added that this transformation is what happens when a firm stance is taken against crime and impunity does not prevail.

Later at 16:53 UTC, she turned her attention to Cuba’s political climate. Salazar remarked that “The ruthless Cuban regime silences truth with abductions, violence, and death. This is the reality of Communism.” In this context, she expressed appreciation for Chief of Mission Mike Hammer for his support of the Cuban people in their pursuit of freedom.

Continuing her focus on Cuba at 16:54 UTC, Salazar reiterated her previous statement in Spanish by asserting that “El régimen cubano es despiadado: secuestra, golpea y mata para callar la verdad. Esa es la cara real del comunismo.” She once again acknowledged Mike Hammer’s commitment to standing alongside the Cuban citizens in their struggle for liberty.

María Elvira Salazar has served in the U.S. Congress since replacing Donna Shalala in 2021. Prior to this role, she was a member of the Florida House of Representatives and holds a BA from the University of Miami.
