Rep. María Elvira Salazar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district, has shared her views on economic and regulatory issues affecting small businesses in America through a series of tweets. Her statements reflect her stance on reducing taxes and regulations to foster prosperity.

On May 5, 2025, Rep. Salazar highlighted the significant role of small businesses in the American economy by stating that “99.9% of businesses in America are small businesses.” She criticized Washington bureaucrats for imposing “job killing taxes and over regulation” that stifle these enterprises. She advocated for buying American products, cutting taxes, and easing regulations to support job creators across the country.

In a subsequent tweet posted moments later, she reiterated her message in Spanish: “El 99% de los negocios en E.E.U.U son pequeñas empresas,” pointing out how excessive taxation and regulation have suffocated these businesses. She urged actions such as purchasing American goods and reducing bureaucratic obstacles to revitalize the economy.

Later that day, Rep. Salazar informed her followers about upcoming changes regarding identification requirements at airports: “IMPORTANT: Starting May 7, 2025, TSA will enforce REAL ID.” She warned travelers that those without a REAL ID-compliant identification or other accepted forms of ID should expect additional screening procedures even if they have PreCheck status.

María Elvira Salazar has served in Congress since replacing Donna Shalala in 2021 and was previously a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami in 1961, she graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983.
