Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congress member representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, has recently expressed her views on various pressing issues through social media. Salazar, who succeeded Donna Shalala and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, shared her perspectives on international support, assistance for constituents abroad, and immigration reform.

On June 16, 2025, Salazar emphasized the importance of unwavering U.S. support for Israel amidst ongoing regional conflicts. She stated: “Ahora más que nunca, el apoyo de Estados Unidos a Israel debe ser firme, claro e inquebrantable.” She further expressed her full conviction in supporting Israel as it conducts Operation León Naciente in response to recent attacks and threats.

Later that day, Salazar addressed the needs of Floridians potentially stranded in Israel due to the unrest. In a tweet posted at 20:02 UTC on June 16, she urged her followers to assist those affected by sharing information about available help: “Please share this with any Florida family or friends who may need help returning home from Israel.”

On June 17, 2025, Salazar turned her attention to domestic issues by highlighting long-standing challenges within the U.S. immigration system. At 13:29 UTC she tweeted: ” For too long, America has turned a blind eye to a broken immigration system.” She criticized the chaos at the border and underscored the plight of millions living undocumented in the country for decades.

María Elvira Salazar was born in Miami in 1961 and graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983. She continues to reside in Miami while serving her congressional duties.
