Rep. María Elvira Salazar, serving in the U.S. Congress for Florida’s 27th district since 2021, has taken to social media to assert her proactive leadership and critique current immigration reforms. On April 24, 2025, she emphasized her personal commitment and leadership, asserting via a tweet: “I didn’t wait for someone to act; I led. As long as I have breath and a platform, I will use my voice to speak for the voiceless and fight for our community.”
The same day, Salazar reiterated her message in Spanish through another tweet, stating, “No esperé a que alguien actuara; yo tomé la iniciativa. Mientras tenga aliento y una plataforma, usaré mi voz para hablar por los que no tienen voz y luchar por nuestra comunidad.”
On April 25, 2025, Salazar directed criticism at President Biden’s handling of immigration reform with a tweet, arguing that “Biden pledged immigration reform action in his first 100 days. Instead, we got open borders that pushed people like Dreamers & TPS recipients off the table.” She advocated for her legislative proposal, “My Dignity Act delivers on a secure border, a secure economy, and dignity for immigrant communities.”
María Elvira Salazar, an American born in Miami in 1961, graduated from the University of Miami in 1983. Before her Congressional service, she was a member of the Florida House of Representatives.
