The Miami Hurricanes baseball team defeated the No. 11 Florida State Seminoles by a score of 7-4 in the series finale on May 16 at Dick Howser Stadium.
This win allowed Miami to avoid a sweep and finish their regular season on a positive note as they prepare for postseason play. The victory also gives the Hurricanes momentum heading into the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
Miami’s starting pitcher, AJ Ciscar, earned his fifth win of the season after pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four batters. Relief pitcher Lyndon Glidewell recorded his fifth save by securing the final four outs, despite giving up a solo home run in the ninth inning.
Florida State took an early lead with Nathan Cmeyla’s solo home run in the second inning. However, Miami responded in the seventh when Gabriel Milano hit a two-run homer to put them ahead. Derek Williams and Alex Sosa added back-to-back solo home runs in the eighth to extend Miami’s advantage. Florida State narrowed the gap with runs from Hunter Carns and Cmeyla later that inning, but Miami answered with three more runs in the ninth through timely hitting and an error by Florida State catcher Cmeyla.
The Hurricanes ended with seven runs on twelve hits while Florida State managed four runs on nine hits. With this game concluding their regular season, Miami now looks forward to competing in the ACC Tournament scheduled for May 19-24 in Charlotte, North Carolina; their tournament seeding has not yet been determined.
The outcome provides confidence for Miami as they head into postseason play.
