The Miami Hurricanes baseball team lost to the Florida Gators by a score of 22-10 in a regional matchup on May 31 in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators scored seven runs each in the sixth and eighth innings to secure the win after Miami tied the game in the fifth.
Jake Ogden started the game for Miami with a solo home run, marking his second leadoff homer of the season. Max Galvin followed with a double and Derek Williams reached base after being hit by a pitch, but Florida ended Miami’s early momentum with an inning-ending double play.
Florida responded strongly in their half of the first inning, scoring six runs on five hits and two Miami errors. The rally included an RBI single from Karson Bowen and a three-run home run by Cade Kurland. After this outburst, Miami starter AJ Ciscar was taken out of the game.
Miami attempted to close the gap throughout the middle innings. In the third inning, Max Galvin and Derek Williams singled before Alex Sosa delivered an RBI double. Alonzo Alvarez added a two-RBI single as Miami narrowed Florida’s lead to 6-4. However, Bowen homered for Florida in their half of that frame to extend their advantage.
The Hurricanes continued pressing offensively and managed to tie the game at eight runs apiece by scoring twice each in both the fourth and fifth innings. Despite these efforts, defensive miscues proved costly as more errors contributed to another seven-run surge for Florida in the sixth inning. Jones capped off that rally with a three-run double.
Miami added two more runs on RBI singles late but could not keep pace as Kurland hit another home run for Florida before they pulled away further with additional scoring late in the contest.
With this loss, Miami will face Troy at noon Eastern time in an elimination game. Coverage will be available on ESPN+ and WVUM 90.5 FM.
