The Miami Hurricanes baseball team lost to North Carolina State University, 13-6, in the second game of a doubleheader at Doak Field on May 2. The loss sets up a decisive rubber match between the teams scheduled for Saturday.
The result is important as it keeps both teams’ hopes alive in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings. With Miami now holding a record of 33-13 overall and 13-10 in conference play, the outcome of Saturday’s matchup will determine which team takes the series.
NC State pitcher Cooper Consiglio earned his third win of the season by allowing two runs on three hits over six innings and striking out nine batters. Miami’s Rob Evans took his third loss after giving up four runs across nearly four innings pitched. NC State built an early lead with Christian Serrano’s three-run home run in the second inning and expanded their advantage with seven runs in the fifth, aided by walks, errors, and timely hitting.
Miami responded with a six-run seventh inning highlighted by bases-loaded walks from Gabriel Milano, Fabio Peralta, and Jailen Watkins. Michael Torres contributed an RBI groundout before Alex Sosa drove in two more runs with a single. However, NC State added two insurance runs later that inning to secure their victory.
The final game of this series will be played Saturday at 7 p.m., broadcast on ESPN2 and WVUM 90.5 FM. Fans can follow updates about University of Miami baseball through @canesbaseball on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook.
Both teams look ahead to Saturday’s contest as they aim to gain momentum heading into the latter part of their seasons.
