The Miami Hurricanes baseball team lost to No. 11 Florida State, 11-1, in eight innings on May 15 at Dick Howser Stadium.
This result puts the Hurricanes (35-17, 15-14 ACC) behind in their three-game series against Florida State. The loss was decided by the run rule after the Seminoles scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Florida State’s Trey Beard earned the win by allowing one run on four hits and striking out eight batters over six innings. Miami starter Lazaro Collera took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits in just under three innings pitched.
Miami started strong with Max Galvin hitting a solo home run in the first inning to give his team an early lead. However, Florida State responded with a three-run second inning and continued to build momentum throughout the game. The Seminoles added runs through key hits from Carter McCulley, Cal Fisher, Brayden Dowd, Hunter Carns, John Stuetzer and Gabe Fraser.
The Hurricanes struggled offensively and defensively, managing only four hits through six innings while committing three errors. Meanwhile, Florida State collected six hits during that span and capitalized on Miami’s mistakes.
The teams will meet again for the series finale tomorrow at 2 p.m., with live coverage available on ACCNX and WVUM 90.5 FM.
