The University of Miami track and field team will compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Lexington, Kentucky, beginning Wednesday at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex, according to a May 26 announcement.
A group of 20 women and 10 men from the Hurricanes will participate in individual events. The team will also enter men’s and women’s 4×100 meter relays as well as a women’s 4×400 meter relay. The top 12 finishers in each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships scheduled for June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Competition starts Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Tyson Schiele competing in the javelin event. Later that evening, George Franks and Sean Watkins are set to race in the men’s 400 meters at 7:25 p.m.
Thursday’s schedule includes Utitofon Sam and Jocelyn Pringle opening competition at 10 a.m. in the weight throw, followed by Alva Back and Deisiane Teixeira participating in javelin at 1 p.m., Lauren Kirby competing in shot put at 6:30 p.m., Serena Tate racing in the women’s 400 meters at 7:25 p.m., Gabriella Grissom running the women’s 800 meters at 7:50 p.m., and Sanaa Hebron, Morgan Roundtree, and Antonia Sanchez Nunez closing out Thursday with the women’s 400 meter hurdles.
Friday features Desmond Coleman starting off with discus throw at 1 p.m., Kennedy Sauder entering high jump competition at 2 p.m., Ashton Torns, Tristen Washington, Carter Cukerstein, and Dylan Woodruffe representing Miami in the men’s relay at 5 p.m., followed by finals for some events later that evening. Saturday’s events include Sam and Calea Jackson competing again in discus throw beginning at 1 p.m.; Magdaline Campo takes on high jump; Janay Moorer, Nandy Kihuyu, Aniyah Brown, and Iyonna Codd race together on a relay; Maddie Scheier competes in steeplechase; Dominique Johnson and Adriana Kruzmane enter triple jump; finals for several track events occur before concluding with a women’s relay featuring Codd, Hebron, Grissom, and Kihuyu.
