Miami volleyball defeats Duke in straight sets on senior night

The University of Miami volleyball team, ranked No. 14 nationally, secured a 3-0 victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes improved their record to 23-5 overall and 13-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), while Duke fell to 5-23 overall and 2-15 in conference play.

Miami recorded 41 kills, 36 digs, five blocks, and nine aces during the match. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the Hurricanes with 20 kills and became the program’s all-time leader in kills. Redshirt sophomore Ariana Rodriguez contributed with 31 assists and 10 digs.

The first set saw Miami take an early lead at 8-5, helped by Logan Wiley’s early kills and a block. Although Duke tied the score at 17, Miami finished strong to win the set, 25-20.

In the second set, both teams were closely matched until Heredia Colon’s serving run gave Miami an edge with back-to-back aces for an 8-5 lead. Duke managed to tie it late at 22-22 before Miami closed out the set with a kill from Heredia Colon and an ace from Rodriguez for a final score of 25-22.

Miami dominated the third set after Rodriguez and Danilovic sparked a five-point run that pushed their lead to 12-6. Jazmin Vergara added two late kills as Miami capitalized on several errors by Duke to win the final set, 25-14.

The Hurricanes will next host No. 15 North Carolina on Sunday.
