The University of Miami women’s volleyball team achieved a comeback victory against the University of North Carolina, winning 3-2 in Chapel Hill on Saturday. The Hurricanes, ranked No. 13, improved their record to 26-5 overall and 16-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with this win over the No. 19 Tar Heels.
Miami recorded 68 kills, 13 blocks, and a season-high 77 digs during the match. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 36 kills on a program-record 92 attempts. Rodriguez and Wilson each contributed seven blocks, while Naylani Feliciano had a career-best performance with 30 digs.
UNC took the first set after building a lead despite efforts from Miami’s Wilson, who added two kills during a key stretch. Miami responded in the second set by opening with five straight points but ultimately lost it after UNC closed on a late run.
In the third set, Miami started strong before UNC mounted a comeback to take the lead. Vergara tied it at 19-all before Heredia Colon finished off the set for Miami to keep them in contention.
The Hurricanes controlled much of the fourth set behind contributions from Vergara and Wilson and forced a decisive fifth set after another strong showing from Heredia Colon.
Miami maintained an early advantage in the final set and secured victory with additional kills from Heredia Colon.
Following this win, Miami will await its fate for an NCAA tournament berth as selections are announced Sunday.
