The University of Miami volleyball team, ranked No. 13 nationally, secured a 3-0 victory over NC State on Wednesday at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes improved their record to 25-5 overall and 15-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while NC State fell to 15-14 overall and 8-11 in the ACC.
Miami recorded 34 kills, 13 blocks, 11 aces, and 39 digs during the match. Senior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 16 kills and six aces. Sophomore Logan Wiley contributed eight blocks and three kills.
The Hurricanes started strong in the first set, taking a quick 14-3 lead with contributions from Wiley, Heredia Colon, and Rodriguez. Jazmin Vergara added her second kill during a five-point run that extended Miami’s advantage to 21-8. The Hurricanes finished the set with five kills and four aces for a .364 hitting percentage, winning it 25-11.
NC State opened the second set with an early lead at 8-4 before Miami responded to go ahead 15-12 behind Heredia Colon’s tenth kill and third ace. Wiley followed with a kill for a three-point cushion, and Rodriguez’s block pushed the score to 20-16. Miami collected 15 digs in this set on their way to a 25-21 win.
In the third set, Miami started with ten unanswered points thanks to Wilson’s two blocks and two kills. Heredia Colon added three more aces as the Hurricanes extended their lead to 21-3. Consecutive kills from Wilson and Danilovic ended the set at 25-5.
Following this win, Miami will travel to North Carolina for its final regular season match on Saturday.
