Miami women’s tennis team ends season after NCAA second round loss to Auburn

The University of Miami women’s tennis team lost to Auburn on May 2 in the NCAA Second Round at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Miami fell 4-0 against the No. 1 ranked and second-seeded Auburn Tigers, ending their season.

This match was significant as it marked the conclusion of Miami’s season, which included a record of 15 wins and eight losses overall, with an eight-win, four-loss record in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The result also capped Miami’s participation in its 39th NCAA Championships appearance.

Auburn secured the doubles point by winning both completed matches. Ashton Bowers and Ekaterina Khairutdinova defeated Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Maria Vargas on court three with a score of 6-1. DJ Bennett and Ava Esposito, ranked No. 2 nationally as a pair, won against Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka by the same margin at the top court.

In singles play, Auburn clinched victory by taking three straight courts. Dominika Podhajecka lost to Bowers on court five (6-2, 6-2), Isabella Scilipoti dropped her match on court three (6-3, 6-2) to Angell Okutoyi, and Francesca Rocchetti was defeated by Khairutdinova on court two (6-3, 6-4).

The Hurricanes finish their season having earned one All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree along with a top-ten win during their campaign.
