The University of Miami women’s tennis team lost, 4-2, to the No. 22 ranked Duke Blue Devils on April 12 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The match saw Duke secure the doubles point early, with Liv Hovde and Aspen Schuman defeating Daria Volosova and Dominika Podhajecka, followed by Irina Balus and Shavit Kimchi clinching another win over Raquel Gonzalez and Sofia Rocchetti. This put Miami at a disadvantage going into singles play.
Sebastianna Scilipoti managed to tie the score for Miami with a straight sets victory over Claire An. Dominika Podhajecka then gave Miami a brief lead by defeating Eleana Yu in two sets. However, Duke responded by winning three consecutive singles matches: Kimchi defeated Arai on court five, Balus won against Gonzalez in a top-40 matchup, and Schuman clinched the overall victory for Duke with her win over Rocchetti.
The Hurricanes now turn their attention to the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Cary, North Carolina. The details of their first matchup will be announced later.
Looking ahead, Miami aims to regroup for postseason play after this close loss.
