FIU Athletics announced on May 5 that nine of its sports programs achieved perfect single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for the 2024-25 academic year, according to the latest annual report from the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Five FIU teams also posted perfect four-year APR marks covering the 2021-25 period.
The APR is a metric used by the NCAA to track academic progress and success among student-athletes on scholarship. It measures eligibility, retention, and graduation rates each semester. The standard required multi-year score set by the NCAA is 930.
The nine FIU programs with single-year perfect APR scores of 1,000 are women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, golf, softball, women’s soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball. Additionally, five teams—women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, swimming and diving, and tennis—achieved a perfect four-year score of 1,000. Tennis has now maintained a perfect APR for five consecutive years.
All sixteen FIU teams surpassed the minimum required multi-year score of 930 in this reporting cycle. Three teams reached scores of at least 985 or higher over multiple years.
Each Division I team calculates its APR annually using a formula where scholarship student-athletes earn points for maintaining eligibility and remaining enrolled or graduating each term. The Academic Performance Program provides measurable goals to help schools support student-athlete achievement both academically and athletically.
Looking ahead, FIU Athletics continues to encourage financial support from fans through ticket purchases and Panther Club memberships to enhance resources available for student-athletes.
