Rep. María Elvira Salazar, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district, has expressed her views on various issues through recent tweets. Salazar, who took office in 2021 after replacing Donna Shalala, shared her perspectives on the Cuban regime and introduced legislation aimed at boosting Miami’s growth.

On May 6, 2025, Salazar addressed concerns regarding the Cuban government by stating that “The Cuban regime remains a serious threat to U.S. security”. She emphasized the need for continued pressure on the regime to ensure accountability.

In a similar tweet posted moments later on May 6, she reiterated her stance in Spanish: “El régimen cubano sigue siendo una seria amenaza para la seguridad de Estados Unidos.” This underscores her commitment to addressing what she perceives as ongoing threats from Cuba.

On May 7, 2025, Salazar announced the reintroduction of a legislative initiative with local significance. She stated: “Proud to reintroduce the Ocean ROI Act to boost Miami’s growth and protect our oceans.” The act is aimed at enhancing research and technology investments in South Florida.

María Elvira Salazar was born in Miami in 1961 and graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in 1983. Her tenure as a congressional representative has been marked by efforts to address both local and international issues pertinent to her constituents.
