Born in Miami in 1961, Salazar has a longstanding history of public service, having replaced Donna Shalala in Congress and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives.

On May 21, 2025, Salazar expressed her appreciation for a meeting with Mexican senators and Emilio Moctezuma to discuss the relationship between the United States and Mexico. She highlighted their conversation as an opportunity to explore new ways to strengthen bilateral ties, stating that “It was a pleasure to sit down with @emoctezumab and senators from Mexico to discuss the deep friendship between our two nations and explore new ways to strengthen our bilateral relationship.”

The following day, on May 22, 2025, Rep. Salazar addressed a tragic event involving Israeli embassy staff members in Washington D.C., expressing strong condemnation. She wrote “I unequivocally condemn the heinous and antisemitic murder of two Israeli embassy staff in Washington, D.C.” This message conveyed her solidarity with Israel amidst such acts of violence.
