On April 23, 2025, Salazar marked Yom HaShoah by emphasizing the collective memory of the Holocaust. She urged: “On this Yom HaShoah, let us never forget the horror of the destruction of six million Jews during the Holocaust.”
Similarly, she posted the same message in Spanish shortly after, encapsulating identical sentiments on the same day: “En este Yom HaShoah, nunca olvidemos el horror de la destrucción de seis millones de judíos durante el Holocausto.”
Later, on the evening of the same day, Salazar underscored the importance of U.S. policy within the Western Hemisphere. She cautioned against allowing foreign dominance, particularly by China, stating: “This is why our continued engagement with the Western Hemisphere is so important. We can’t let China dominate our region.”
María Elvira Salazar, born in Miami, Florida, in 1961, has had a presence in the U.S. Congress since she assumed office in Florida’s 27th district in 2021. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Miami, from which she graduated in 1983.
