Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 27th district since 2021, recently shared her thoughts on social media regarding Mother’s Day and the return of a captive individual named Edan. Born in Miami in 1961, Salazar has been an active political figure following her graduation from the University of Miami.

On May 11, 2025, Rep. Salazar extended her best wishes to mothers worldwide through a tweet celebrating their contributions and strength. She stated: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers in Miami and around the world—today we celebrate your love, strength, and dedication.”

The following day, May 12, she welcomed back Edan after his prolonged captivity lasting over 19 months. In her tweet, she expressed relief at his return while emphasizing resilience and hope: “Welcome home, Edan. After more than 19 months in captivity, your return is a powerful reminder of resilience and hope.” She also stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on Hamas until all hostages are released.

In another message posted on May 12 in Spanish, Salazar reiterated her sentiments about Edan’s release as a testament to strength and hope: “Bienvenido a casa, Edan. Tras más de 19 meses en cautiverio, tu regreso es un testimonio de fuerza y esperanza.” She concluded with a firm stance against terrorism.

María Elvira Salazar has represented Florida’s diverse community both locally and nationally since taking office after Donna Shalala in 2021.
