Representative María Elvira Salazar, serving in the U.S. Congress for Florida’s 27th District, recently shared insights and calls to action through a series of public messages. Her current position follows her replacement of Donna Shalala in 2021 and previous service in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Miami, Salazar graduated from the University of Miami in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree, adding to her profile as a seasoned public servant.

On May 1, 2025, Salazar highlighted her practice of displaying daily Bible passages outside her office with a tweet emphasizing this tradition on “Each day, my constituents are greeted by a new Bible passage outside my office. Today is John 1:29-51. On this National Day of Prayer, please join me in giving thanks, seeking guidance, and lifting one another up in hope and prayer.”

Reiterating her message in Spanish later the same day on May 1, 2025, Salazar expressed on “Cada día, mis electores ven un nuevo pasaje bíblico frente a mi oficina. Hoy es Juan 1:29-51. En este Día Nacional de Oración, unámonos para dar gracias, buscar guía y alentarnos con esperanza y oración.”

Salazar’s communication also touched on international concerns. On May 1, 2025, she addressed the ongoing situation involving hostages in Hamas captivity, calling for solidarity and action against the backdrop of Israel’s independence celebrations. Her tweet read “This year’s celebration of Israel’s independence is tempered by the knowledge that 59 hostages, including 5 Americans, remain in Hamas captivity. They must be freed. Hamas must be defeated. Israel stands determined to live, defend, and thrive. America stands with you. “
