Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, along with Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and Maria Elvira Salazar, introduced a House Resolution recognizing María Corina Machado as the legitimate presidential opposition candidate in Venezuela. This resolution comes as the murderous Maduro regime continues to threaten, intimidate, and silence Machado, demonstrating their desperation in the face of impending defeat.
In a statement, Rep. Carlos Gimenez said, "This blatant attack on democracy shows the regime’s desperation in the face of impending defeat. The Venezuelan people are determined to free themselves from communism with María Corina, and the United States must stand with the freedom-loving people of Venezuela."
Similarly, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart expressed his support for Machado, stating, "I am proud to introduce a resolution that strongly supports María Corina Machado as Venezuela’s legitimate presidential opposition candidate and condemns the Maduro regime’s attempts to exclude any legitimate opposition from political participation. The U.S. must stand unequivocally with the Venezuelan people in their brave struggle for freedom, human rights, and democratic government."
Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the overwhelming support Machado has received from the Venezuelan opposition. She said, "The Venezuelan opposition overwhelmingly chose María Corina Machado to lead the fight against the Maduro regime in the upcoming elections. The United States must offer its full support for her and her campaign as millions of Venezuelans around the world rally around her struggle against the dictatorship."
The resolution introduced by the representatives aims to recognize Machado as the legitimate candidate opposing dictator Nicolas Maduro in the upcoming presidential elections. It also condemns the Maduro regime's attempts to exclude any legitimate opposition from political participation.
It is worth noting that Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have also introduced a companion Senate Resolution in support of Machado's candidacy.
The resolution is a response to the Biden Administration's decision to relax sanctions on the Maduro dictatorship while establishing an arbitrary deadline for free and fair elections in Venezuela, which has since passed without the reimposition of tough sanctions.
The representatives' resolution and the support it has garnered emphasize the need for the United States to stand with the Venezuelan people in their fight for freedom, human rights, and democratic government.

As Venezuela prepares for its next presidential elections, the recognition and support of María Corina Machado as the legitimate opposition candidate by Reps. Gimenez, Diaz-Balart, and Salazar, as well as Senators Scott and Rubio, highlight the international attention and concern for the ongoing political situation in Venezuela. The Venezuelan people's determination to free themselves from communism and the support of the United States and other nations will play a crucial role in shaping Venezuela's future.
