MIAMI, FL - Congressman Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28) appeared on ‘Mornings with Maria’ to discuss the national security threat of Havana Syndrome. Rep. Gimenez expressed his concerns about the collaboration between the dictatorship in Communist Cuba and Russian actors in targeting U.S. officials. He stated, “It is no surprise the dictatorship in Communist Cuba collaborated with Russian assets to use Havana Syndrome to actively target and harm U.S. officials.” He further emphasized the need for accountability by urging the Biden Administration to take action: “As the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, I call on the Biden Administration to use every tool in its disposal to hold the regime in Cuba accountable for this perverse action.”

Havana Syndrome, a medical condition first detected in Havana, Cuba in 2016, affects U.S. and Canadian officials stationed overseas, causing symptoms such as pain, ringing in the ears, and cognitive dysfunction.

Former President Trump showed support for Rep. Gimenez's efforts in addressing the threat of Havana Syndrome. The Congressman, who represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, has a personal connection to the issue, having fled Cuba with his family following the communist takeover. Rep. Gimenez currently serves as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, is a member of the Armed Services Committee, and is part of the Select Committee on China.
