WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez pressed members of the military of the Biden Administration’s strategy in Ukraine at a full House Armed Service Committee hearing.
During the hearing, Rep. Gimenez highlighted the financial aspect of Russia's actions in Ukraine, stating, "Russia finances its brutal war against Ukraine primarily through the sale of oil and natural gas to adversarial countries, like Communist China."
Expanding on his concerns, Gimenez emphasized the need for more significant actions from the Biden Administration, saying, “The Biden Administration must do more to restrict and sanction Russia’s energy sector to hamper their ability to wage war against Ukraine. Additionally, Congress has the responsibility to provide our Ukrainian friends with the tools they need to fight against Putin’s murderous campaign and defend freedom and democracy in Europe.”
Congressman Carlos Gimenez, the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, has a personal connection to issues of communism, having fled the island with his family shortly after the communist takeover. Representing Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, Gimenez holds key positions in various committees, including the Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, and serving on the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on China.
