On May 24, 2024, Representative Carlos A. Giménez (FL-28), Representative Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) held a press conference to denounce the Biden administration's decision to permit Castro regime operatives to tour TSA facilities at Miami International Airport earlier this week. The officials emphasized that the Castro regime is designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism and argued that its representatives should not be granted access to U.S. security areas or receive special treatment at any U.S. airport.
"I'll be introducing legislation so TSA cannot grant sensitive security access to agents from countries on the State Sponsors of Terrorism," said Rep. Gimenez. "You'd think it unnecessary & commonsense, but commonsense isn't very common in the Biden Administration."
Senator Scott echoed these concerns: “What the Biden administration has allowed to happen here is absolutely insane. The illegitimate, communist Cuban regime is a designated State Sponsor of Terror and President Biden just opened our doors to them with a personal tour of U.S. security protocols at Miami International Airport. Everything this administration does puts America at risk. My colleagues and I are calling on Secretary Mayorkas, the TSA Administrator and any Biden administration official involved in this reckless decision to answer for it and be held accountable. Joe Biden’s appeasement of the Cuban regime is already putting Americans in danger; we cannot allow these terrorists back on American soil."
Congressman Carlos Giménez, the only Cuban-born Member of Congress, fled Cuba with his family shortly after the communist takeover. He represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, which host one of the largest Venezuelan exile communities in America. He chairs the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security and serves on both the Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on China.
