Today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez expressed his disapproval following a meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Lima, Peru. Congressman Gimenez, a member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party, criticized what he perceives as ongoing friendly relations by the Biden-Harris Administration with authoritarian regimes.
"President Joe Biden has just handed murderous Communist Chinese dictator, Xi Jinping, a public relations victory at the APEC summit," said Representative Carlos Gimenez. He further commented on what he sees as an inadequate response to challenges posed by China: "The Biden-Harris Administration has been abysmally weak in countering the direct threat posed by Communist China."
Gimenez cited several actions attributed to China that concern him: "Communist China corrals Uyghurs in concentration camps, persecutes the Tibetan people, threatens our ally Taiwan, and attempts to be the world's dominant military and economic power by the year 2049." He emphasized that "the United States must decouple from Communist China and lead from a position of strength."
Congressman Carlos Giménez represents Miami-Dade County and Florida Keys. As a Cuban-born member of Congress who fled Cuba after its communist takeover, he holds unique perspectives on these issues. Gimenez is also notable for being the first career firefighter paramedic elected to Congress and previously served as Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. He currently chairs subcommittees related to Homeland Security and serves on committees concerning Armed Services and competition with China.
