Congressman Carlos Gimenez has criticized the Biden-Harris Administration for its decision to remove Cuba from the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism. In a statement, Gimenez described President Biden's action as "pathetic and cowardly." He further expressed confidence that with the incoming administration of President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Cuba would be reinstated on the list and measures would be taken against its regime.
Gimenez emphasized that the Castro regime should remain on the terrorism list until it meets specific conditions outlined in the LIBERTAD Act. These include ensuring freedom of speech, freedom of the press, rights to assemble and organize, and conducting free and fair elections.
The congressman represents Miami-Dade County and Florida Keys. As the only Cuban-born member of the 119th Congress, he fled Cuba following its Communist takeover. Gimenez has a background as a firefighter paramedic and served as Fire Chief of Miami City and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. His current roles include Vice-Chairman of the Republican Governance Group (RG2), Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, along with memberships in other committees.
