Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congress member representing Florida's 27th district, recently shared insights on her meetings with prominent figures in international economic development. Her tweets highlighted discussions centered around the economic progress and security of Latin America and the Western Hemisphere.

On March 12, 2025, Rep. Salazar tweeted about her meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She expressed satisfaction with Georgieva's commitment to the region's economic development: "Fue una reunión excelente con la Directora Gerente del FMI, @KGeorgieva, comprometida con el desarrollo económico de América Latina." Salazar emphasized the importance of a free and prosperous Western Hemisphere for U.S. national security: "A free, prosperous, and democratic Western Hemisphere is crucial for America’s national security interests."

Later that day, she also discussed her meeting with Ilan Goldfajn from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). She underscored the significance of economic development among regional partners as a strategy to maintain security by limiting China's influence in the area: "Keeping China out of the Western Hemisphere is key for our national security. We do that through economic development of our regional partners." She further advocated for increased trade and commerce as means to enhance security.
