Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) has made a formal request to the Trump Administration to end all travel and remittances to Cuba, proposing limited humanitarian exemptions to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the State Department.

In previous actions during President Trump's first term, cruise travel to Cuba was suspended, and sanctions were implemented to restrict the Cuban regime's access to hard currency and resources believed to be used for repression. Congressman Gimenez criticized the Cuban government's tactics, stating, "The murderous dictatorship in Havana poses a significant threat to the safety and wellbeing of the United States and our citizens." He further urged, "The time is now" for America to eliminate any resources that support the Cuban dictatorship.

For additional context, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, who represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, is the only Cuban-born member of the 119th Congress. Having left Cuba after the Communist takeover, he became the first career firefighter paramedic elected to the House of Representatives. Gimenez has also served as the former Fire Chief of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County. In Congress, he was appointed by Speaker Mike Johnson to the Smithsonian Institution’s Board of Regents and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Republican Governance Group. He holds several committee positions including Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security.

Readers can access more details through the Fox News exclusive and Congressman Gimenez's full letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
