Three Florida International University track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after their performances at the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky, according to a May 30 announcement. Amaya Bien-Aime, Janiya Cesar, and Arndis Oskarsdottir will continue their seasons at the national event in Eugene, Oregon, beginning June 13.
Janiya Cesar secured her spot early by placing 11th in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 62.33 meters. This result strengthened her position as third all-time in the FIU record books for that event. Shortly after, Arndis Oskarsdottir earned her second consecutive trip to Eugene by finishing sixth in the javelin with a throw of 51.59 meters.
Amaya Bien-Aime rounded out FIU’s qualifiers by tying for fifth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.82 meters. This achievement moved her into second place on FIU’s all-time list for that event, surpassing Linda Loussaint’s mark set in 2005.
FIU sent a total of eleven athletes to compete at the regional meet. Other results included Agustin Carril tying for 33rd place in men’s pole vault (5.05m), Raynell Chambers finishing 39th in men’s 200m (21.10), and Blake Orr taking 15th place in men’s javelin (65.97m). On the women’s side, Selena Calix finished 47th in javelin (42.07m), Luca Keszthelyi tied for 24th place in high jump (1.76m), Isabell-Mary Luik placed 21st in javelin (47.84m), Danielle McGonigle was 20th in triple jump (12.88m), and Kylie Neira tied her personal best to finish fifteenth overall in pole vault (4.22m).
The NCAA Championship is scheduled to begin June 10 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
