The University of Miami athletic department earned an Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 990 in the latest National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) report, according to a May 5 announcement. The NCAA released APR data for all Division I institutions on Tuesday, with the national average standing at 986.
The results are significant as the APR is an annual measure used to assess academic achievement among student-athletes across all Division I sports teams. It provides insight into eligibility, retention, and graduation rates for each team.
Nine University of Miami programs achieved perfect single-year APR scores of 1,000 for the 2024-25 academic year. These include men’s basketball, men’s cross country, men’s diving, men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s cross country, golf, women’s tennis and women’s track and field. Four programs—men’s cross country, men’s diving, golf and women’s tennis—received NCAA Public Recognition Awards for perfect multi-year scores spanning four academic years from 2021-22 through 2024-25.
“I am proud of our student-athletes for continuing to earn high APR marks,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “Thank you to our staff and coaches for their efforts in helping our student-athletes succeed in the classroom.”
The detailed breakdown shows that several teams maintained or improved their performance compared to previous years. For example: men’s basketball posted a multi-year APR of 994 with a perfect score this year; football reported a multi-year APR of 984 with a current year score of 993; women’s tennis achieved both multi-year and single-year perfect scores.
The university’s strong showing reflects ongoing efforts by athletes as well as support from coaches and staff members focused on academic success.
