Alva Back, a freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, has joined the Miami Hurricane Track & Field team as part of the University of Miami’s incoming class. She previously attended Rudbeck and is majoring in Business Management.

Back shared her reasons for choosing the University of Miami: “Because of the great school and the weather.” Reflecting on her initial experiences, she said, “It has been amazing.” When asked about her favorite aspect of being a Hurricane, she responded, “Being a part of this track team.”

Adjusting to life in Coral Gables has presented some challenges for Back. She noted that the biggest adjustment since arriving at Miami has been “the language and being away from my family.” She also mentioned that learning everything in a new language was an important transition from her previous school.

Back described her team as “family” and highlighted that the nicer weather sets Coral Gables apart from her hometown. Among her personal interests, she named Armand Duplantis as her favorite athlete and sushi as her favorite meal. Her favorite movie is Ocean’s 8, and she enjoys music by Hov1. In addition to spending time with friends during her spare time, she recalled having hamsters as her first pets and identified Lima, Peru as the farthest place she has traveled from home. Her nickname is Alvis.
